Some of you may think we are crazy but for our situation it really works. Our daughter, Autumn, is 3 years old. From what various people tell us she is just plain different. Even her doctor thinks so. She’s just one of those kids that grabs your attention as soon as she walks in the room. The funny thing is she doesn’t even have to be smiling. My husband and I have been reading to her since the day we found out we were pregnant and that still continues today. We’ve managed to enstill a love of learning in her at an early age just like our parents did for us and we can see the results everyday.
Now to the point of all that. Preschooling at home is not really that hard at all. I’m sure your kids just like ours has toys like blocks, and maybe a few preschool card games or even something they just have a lot of like toy trucks or dolls. All of these things can be used to teach basic skills. You really don’t need a curriculum to begin with. We’re adults we pretty much know by instinct what our children need to know, “We’ve taught them how to walk, talk and feed themselves right?”. Well homeschooling a toddler/preschool age child and a continuation of that. All you’re doing is laying more building blocks for the more complex learning that will take place down the line.
So, when you look at that tower of blocks John just built and congratulate your future architect take a few more minutes and have him count them or sort them by size or shape. The more you use the everyday things that your children already love and add them into educational games or 5 – 10 minute learning sessions the easier homeschooling that talkative child that won’t sit to save your life or anyone else’s in the house. Trust me I knkow the feeling. The only time I can get Autumn to sit down is if I say “School Time!”.
